ABOUT
VACANCE pictures is a Tokyo-based filmmaking organization founded in December 2022.The organization's members include filmmakers, producers, directors, musicians, actors, photographers, illustrators, graphic designers, and others, and it also functions as an artist collective that utilizes the characteristics of each member. Inspired by the Dziga Vertov collective, a film organization organized by Jean-Luc Godard, the standard-bearer of the Nouvelle Vague, this organization respects the auteurism of its individual members and aims to continuously create films of high purity. The word "vacance" has the meaning of "blank/vacant" as well as "vacation".While the Dziga Vertov Group's form of production was highly political, this group's policy is to respect the free will of each individual to create, thereby diffusing the collective will and filling a "vacuum" that allows the group to mix, blend, and sometimes confront the diversifying and fluid trends of the times. In addition, we will apply as an organization for sponsorships, grant programs, entrepreneurial projects, and other programs that are appropriate for our films.Production schedule planning and budget management will be completed with the help of production and management professionals who have requested not to be listed on the members' page. We will plan and execute screening events, distribution, and film festival participation so that the films we produce can be seen by as many people as possible. As an artist collective, we will also publish a zine related to the films on a regular basis. If you are interested in becoming an organization, please contact us through CONTACT.
